Iowa College Aid Insider: Iowa College Aid Programs (Feb. 2018)
The youngest member of our communications team is also the cutest. Graphic designer Jamie Fisher, who volunteers with the Puppy Jake Foundation, was selected to foster a golden retriever puppy who will eventually be a service dog for a wounded veteran. Gabus, named because Gabus Family Foundation is his sponsor, arrived from Florida in mid-December and reportedly loves the snow. He’ll live with Jamie for 18 to 24 months. During that time, he’ll spend work days with Jamie in the office. The biggest challenge for other staffers: Because Gabus is a working dog, they’re supposed to ignore him as best they can. But they can still keep up on his progress. As a communications professional, Gabus naturally has his own Instagram account: @gabustheservicepup.
Three new employees have joined Iowa College Aid so far this year Here’s a quick look at them:
- Rohey Sallah is a community engagement consultant (Program Planner 2) for the Course to College Corps. She is originally from Gambia and grew up in Des Moines. She worked most recently at the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants, where she was a wellness program coordinator. She has also worked one-on-one with school-age children and families through Orchard Place.
- Anne Thomas is a community engagement consultant (Program Planner 2) with our Local College Access Network communities. She was the grants manager for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Central Iowa for three years and worked in the Crime Victim Assistance Division of the Iowa Attorney General’s Office for 14 years.
- Tressa Glass is our new digital editor (Information Specialist 2). She’ll be responsible for our websites, social media accounts and blog and will assist in major publication projects. Tressa comes to us from the Des Moines Register, where she created and managed digital content and organized the paper’s live Storytellers series.
Communications coordinator Elizabeth Keest Sedrel has been making regular appearances on CW Iowa Live to offer tips for college-bound students and their families. The show, hosted by Jackie Schmillen and Lou Sipolt, airs every weekday morning on KCWI, Channel 23 in the Des Moines market. You can catch up on Elizabeth’s interviews here:
