Why Go To College?

What are you going do with your life? You've probably been asked that question a million times by your parents and other adults. As you get closer to the end of high school, you will have a lot of decisions to make. One of them is whether or not you want to go to college. Not sure what you want to do? Check out these reasons to go to college:

Go to college so...
  • You can have a career...anyone can get a job. Unless you win the lottery or your Aunt Ruth dies and leaves you a fortune, you'll probably have to work for a living. Most of the good jobs require some type of college education.
  • You can choose what you want to do. If you have to spend 40 hours a week at your job, why not do something that you really enjoy? Get a degree in something you like, so you can get the right skills for the job that's right for you. You might not know what you want to do right now, but at least you will have choices.
  • You can earn more cash. You can earn about twice as much with a college degree than with a high school diploma. The more education you get the better chance you'll have to make more money.
  • You can kick it with new friends and do some cool stuff. Your high school friends were great, but don't be afraid to add new friends to your old crew. Going to college can open up a whole new world of experiences. Get involved in the campus life and do it all!
  • You can be who you always wanted to be. Who you WERE in high school no longer matters. College is an opportunity to define yourself however you want.
  • You can learn to be responsible and independent. Ok, so that doesn't sound fun...but do you really want your mom doing your laundry your whole life? You will be living on your own and learning to make your own decisions. You get to choose how to live!
  • You don't end up living in your parent's basement when you're 30. A college degree won't guarantee you'll get a good job, but it will give you a better chance.
