Why College?

Why did you decide to go to college? Most likely it was because of the many benefits of a college education. You probably knew then, and still know, that nothing opens doors of opportunity like a college degree. It still never hurts to remind yourself why you are in college.

You went to college so...
  • You could make a difference. By entering into the career of your own choosing, you have the ability to make a difference in your field.
  • You could choose what you want to do. A college degree helps ensure that you will have greater career options and choices in the future. Over the course of your working life, a degree may often be a deciding factor in the hiring and promotion process. Plus, it never hurts to do something that you enjoy.
  • You could earn more cash. Your degree will allow you to capitalize on greater earning potential. It's true that college graduates have the ability, on average, to earn about twice as much as those with a high school diploma. Your hard work has a financial pay off!
  • You could broaden your horizons and do some cool stuff. Every person you met, each organization you joined, every study abroad program, each internship, and every hour spent at a work-study position has given you a more complete view of the world. Your campus involvement has a pay off as well!
  • You could be who you always wanted to be. You may find that college has helped you become a well-rounded person. Even though that may not have been your initital goal, the end result will be a broader perspective about the world and your place in it. An education has the ability to catapult you into areas of employment and social situations that you never dreamed!
  • You could learn to be responsible and independent. This may have been your parent's goal - not yours! Either way, by living on your own and making your own decisions, you have learned how to take care of yourself.
  • You could move on with your life. You have gained skills needed for your career path, and skills to live independently! You will find that there is nothing sweeter than knowing you can make your own decisions about the lifestyle you want.
