Take Inventory
The decisions you make while in college may impact many aspects of your life. Take some time to carefully plan your future.
Plan Your Courses
The classes you took in high school mattered, but they are even more important in college. Colleges and universities offer thousands of classes. You need to know which classes you need to fulfill your degree requirements. Work with your advisor to help you develop a course plan.
Set Goals
You have to know where you are trying to go in order to decide how to get there! Set goals for yourself each semester to help you stay on track for your future. Setting small, easy to achieve goals along the way can help you accomplish your ultimate goal - your college degree!
To Work or Not to Work
Deciding to work part-time while in college can have many benefits. For one, you can earn money to help you pay for your expenses. In addition, working can help you learn financial responsibility and self-discipline. But, a job can also take time away from your studies. If you work, it is important to learn good time management skills. Be careful not to work too much. If you work 20 hours or less per week, your job shouldn't have a negative impact on your grades.
What's Important
Remember why you are in college. Focus your time on campus wisely by taking advantage of valuable opportunities to participate in leadership programs, internships, study abroad programs, and organizations that will move you closer to your goal of attaining your degree. You will be able to count your involvement from many of these opportunities as relevant experience on your resume during your job search!
