Plan for Your Success
Plan now for your future. Consider the following to help put yourself in a position to succeed:
Internships
Internships can be a great way to "test drive" your chosen career. Get a taste for what your work day will be like and determine if it is a good fit for you. With an internship, you can gain professional experience, career connections, and an addition to your resume. Sometimes they may even lead to a job recommendation or a job itself.
Campus Involvement
The campus if full of various opportunities both in and out of the classroom. Find something that interests you and get involved! You may choose from extracurricular activities, campus organizations, intramural sports, fraternities and sororities, religious organizations, community service, volunteer work or something else that catches your eye. Being involved can help you meet friends, stay connected to your campus, and provide networking opportunities.
Study Abroad Opportunities
A study abroad program can help boost your academic credentials as well as provide you with an invaluable experience. Studying abroad could be especially helpful if you are studying a foreign language. Check with the college financial aid office for financial aid options.
Leadership Experience
Be a leader! Look for opportunities to hold leadership roles on your campus. Not only will it be a great resume builder, but you will learn skills that can help you in the work place later.
Find Balance
There is a such thing as TOO much fun! Be sure you balance your academic responsibilities with your social commitments. The key is successful time management. Your classes should always be your first priority. So going to class and studying should come BEFORE fun. Don't get distracted from why you are in college - for an education.
