Code of Conduct for Educational Loans

Iowa Code Section 261E.2 and Section 487(a)(25)(A) of the Higher Education Act (HEA) requires colleges and universities to develop, administer, and enforce a code of conduct governing educational loan activities. An institution's code of conduct must be published on its Internet site, and provided to the institution's officers, employees and agents at least annually.

Iowa College Aid, in consultation with the Iowa Attorney General's Office and Iowa college and university officials, has developed a model code of conduct that an institution may, but is not required to, use to meet this requirement.  In addition, at the request of Iowa college and university officials, Iowa College Aid developed a summary of the code of conduct requirements for students and families.

An institution that chooses to post Iowa College Aid's summary for students and families on its Internet site must ensure that the summary is linked to the more detailed code of conduct.
