Gear Up Iowa

Iowa College Student Aid Commission administers GEAR UP Iowa (English PDF, Spanish PDF) a six-year, federally funded program as authorized under the Title IV - Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended in 1998.  The mission of GEAR UP Iowa is to significantly increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education.  GEAR UP Iowa encourages young people to stay in school, study hard, and take classes that will help prepare them for success in postsecondary education.

The GEAR UP Iowa program will serve 7th grade students (7th graders in the 2008-2009 academic year) at 31 Iowa schools.  GEAR UP Iowa will provide resources to these students as they progress from 7th to 12th grade, helping them plan, prepare and pay for college.  GEAR UP Iowa is a year-round program where students will discover the importance of education, improve academic skills, identify career interests, and explore college opportunities.
