Selecting a loan provider to consolidate your student loans is a big decision that shouldn’t be taken lightly. Keep these things in mind when evaluating consolidation offers:

• You will be working with your consolidation loan provider for a long period of time. Select a provider that you know is reputable.
• Many providers offer money-saving benefits for paying on-time and for making payments electronically. It is important to understand if, when, and how you qualify for the benefits, as well as how you may lose them.
• If you are in doubt, check with the financial aid office at your college or university. Many financial aid offices will supply a list of trustworthy loan providers.

TIP: Aggressive marketing efforts from loan providers should raise “caution flags” for smart consumers. Check out the company to be sure it’s reputable.
