About Iowa College Aid

Created in 1963 by the Iowa General Assembly, the Iowa College Student Aid Commission (Iowa College Aid) is a state agency dedicated to making the path to education and training beyond high school easier for Iowans. Iowa College Aid provides college access, career planning, financial literacy, default prevention and outreach services that prepare students to enter and succeed in postsecondary education.

Iowa College Aid administers:
  • 14 state-funded, need-based scholarship, grant and loan forgiveness programs totaling nearly $60 million annually.
  • The Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) Grant, and the College Access Challenge Grant for the State of Iowa with the goal of increasing the college-going culture in Iowa.
  • I Have A Plan Iowa™ - Iowa's designated career planning and information system.
  • The Iowa Financial Literacy Program, Buttonwood™, and other financial literacy programs to prepare students to make smart financial decisions.

Iowa College Student Aid Board of Commissioners
